BC Housing Single Room Occupancy Renewal Initiative

Project highlights

Vancouver, BC

C$202.2 million

The first social housing project in Canada to be delivered as a public-private partnership.

The B.C. Housing SRO Renewal Initiative (SRO) delivers long-term supportive housing and improved quality of life to close to 900 at-risk tenants. The 13 restored historic structures feature updated amenities, while preserving heritage features that maintain the historic character of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

The SRO project has been recognized with awards including:

  • 2017 Heritage BC Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Heritage Conservation
  • 2017 City of Vancouver Heritage Awards
  • Gold for Best Social Infrastructure Project at the 2014 P3 Awards
  • 2013 Silver Award for Innovation & Excellence in Social Housing Innovation from the Canadian Council for Public Private Partnerships

Forum sold its interest in the project in 2016 but maintains its role as the asset manager on behalf of an institutional owner.
