| Forum Social Infrastructure Selected Preferred Proponent for South West Detention Centre
February 4, 2011 TORONTO – Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services today announced Forum Social Infrastructure is the preferred proponent selected to design, build, finance and maintain the South West Detention Centre. The South West Detention Centre will be located in Windsor, Ontario. This new facility will be maximum security. It will have capacity for 315 male and female offenders and will include general population, infirmary and special purpose beds. The request for proposals issued in March 2010 resulted in the selection of Forum Social Infrastructure as the preferred proponent. The team includes:
The design and construction of the South West Detention Centre will adhere to the guidelines and sustainability principles of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system, with a goal of achieving LEED® Silver certification. LEED® buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources. Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services continue to finalize contract details and expect to conclude negotiations with Forum Social Infrastructure in the next several months. Project costs will be announced publicly following financial close, when all relevant contracts have been signed, a financing rate set and the project’s cost finalized. Construction is expected to begin in the spring/summer of 2011. Infrastructure Ontario is working with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to develop the facility.
